BIOGRAPHY

Hi! I'm Jake Dunstan, a composer from Perth who is currently studying a Bachelor of Music - Composition and Music Technology at WAAPA. I  create music that is suitable for modern medias such as the TV, movie and video game industry!

From a young age I have was obsessed with soundtracks from modern medias such as movies, TV shows and especially for video games. I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my console as a child and listening in awe to the wonderful, high-spirited tunes that would play. It was a blissful feeling that I still get to this day. I decided during my high school life that I would pursue this great love for music and took WAAPA as a career path into the music industry!

I love many genres including Contemporary Orchestra, EDM, Rock, Metal and Funk!. I'm a huge fan of film, anime and especially video game soundtracks such as UNDERTALE, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog, composed by one of my all time favourite composers Tomoya Ohtani.

MUSICAL ACHIEVEMENTS

2017-2022

I’ve been engaged in a variety of musical activities over the past few years at school and have made multiple achievements as a result. Some of my achievements include:

•          Seven music academic excellence awards

•          AMEB Silver award

•          Catholic Performing Arts excellence award for piano soloist section

•          Honours award in performing arts

•          2022 ‘Ensembles Director’ Award

•          AMEB grade 8 in piano

Some of my engagements in musical studies recently include:

•          Piano accompaniment for hymn singing, specialist choir, and dance performances

•          Mercy College 2022 Music Captain

•          Playing for a shield-winning performance at the Perth convention centre

•          Playing piano for the school funk band in 2022

•          Seven years of playing in the school rock band

•          Tutoring children in piano

•          Playing keyboard for the school musical

•          Hosting school performing arts events like music festivals and soiree’s

•          Participation in the Catholic Performing Arts festival for seven years

MY AMBITIONS

My ambition for a future career in composing is that I can make music that can entertain the next generation, I want to create music that will give people that same awe-struck feeling that I had when I was a child, I want to move people through the power of music. I want to make people laugh through music, I want to make people cry through music, I even want to make people feel inspired and motivated through my music! I believe that music written for modern medias do not get nearly as much praise as they deserve and want to show the world that this industry should be glorified!
